Teacher Spotlight - Sara Hernandez, Kindergarten | Schedule a Tour!

Hello! My name is Sara Hernandez, and I am a Kindergarten teacher at Mesquite Elementary. I have been teaching for 16 years, and I still find so much joy in watching my students transform from small kids into big kids over the course of the year!
In my classroom, we love to learn, but we also love to laugh. My favorite memory from this past year happened on April Fools' Day. I told my students I brought them "Brown-Es" (Brownies). They were so excited for a dessert treat, but their faces were priceless when I started passing out baggies filled with the letter E cut out of brown paper! We went from confusion to laughter in seconds, and the students couldn't wait to take their "Brown-Es" home to trick their own families.
I am a proud product of Gilbert Public Schools! I attended Neely, Gilbert Elementary, Mesquite Jr. High, and Gilbert High. When I’m not in the classroom, I love all things Disney, cheering on the Arizona Diamondbacks, and spending quality time with my family.
Quick Tip for Parents:
My best advice for a successful year is to stay involved and keep the lines of communication open with your teacher. Most importantly - enjoy the journey! Kindergarten is such a special milestone.
I can’t wait to welcome your family to Mesquite and start a year full of growth and Brown-Es!
